GLOUCESTER FIVE SINGS EUROPE
Performance Tour: Europe
Sept/Oct 2016
Hanu, Nina, Liam and Grace are students at Gloucester High School. Each has performed in lead roles at this year's high school musical 'Seussical'. They have performed at community events throughout the year including ANZAC Day services, View Club events, Christmas Carols, Chill-out Festivals, Relay-for-life and Gloucester Markets amongst others. In addition, they each regularly perform at high school events including Excellence Assemblies and Music and Drama (MaD) nights. Hanu, Nina and Liam are soon to sing at the Opera House with the State Choir. Also, Grace and Hanu have been selected to perform as featured vocal artists at this year's CAPERS Spectacular at Tamworth's Entertainment Centre.
Mauatua has been involved in singing and performing with the Gloucester Public School Choir for the past 4 years. They have performed at several Taree Eisteddfods, and this is her second year performing at Sydney in School Spectacular. Mauatua has joined the High School Choir, and will be attending Gloucester High School next year.
Each has demonstrated they are actively committed to developing their vocal and performance skills. The opportunity to be involved in this Performance Tour would further enhance their talents, while proudly representing the Gloucester community.
Our goal is to fundraise to meet the costs required to join this international performance tour. The tour will consist of a Concert Band and Choir, with students from regional NSW government schools. This tour will give students the opportunity to work with professional and experienced international conductors, to combine with other ensembles for workshops, master classes and to attend concerts in professional venues situated in cities renowned for classical music.
The aim of this 14 day tour is to provide a musical and educationally rich experience beyond the classroom, allowing the students opportunities to be immersed in many musical genres in their social, cultural and historical contexts. They will walk in the footsteps of famous musicians and attend professional concerts in world renowned theatres. They will take part in musical workshops and gain insight into the world of musical history, discovering the significance of classical music. They will explore the development of musical instruments and the influence of music in different cultures, while enjoying a variety of music genres throughout their travels. The tour visits Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and Czech Republic.
The estimated maximum cost for each student is $6000, and includes air fares, travel, accommodation and some meals. This amount also covers the cost of attending a mandatory camp in July 2016 at Dubbo.
This experience would prove an incredible opportunity for each student to expand their musical knowledge and complement their ongoing music studies. It will provide unique performance and musical appreciation opportunities that they would not normally access living in our country town.
