Nina writes:
Recently, in December of last year, I performed with Gondwana National
Choir and Sydney Children’s Choir in their yearly Christmas concert called
Voices of Angels. This year, the concert highlighted Vivaldi’s Gloria which was
sung by all the females in the choir, including myself. We had rehearsals for
about a week that were very intense but the work paid off in the end. The
concert was held in Angel Place City Recital Hall. The first half of the concert
consisted of the women, first acting out a small opening scene that painted a
picture of the Ospedale della Pietà with singers from our group playing
instruments including the oboe, flute, trumpet, bassoon, violin, viola and
double bass. The whole of the Vivaldi’s Gloria goes for about 30 minutes so
that song took up most of the first half of the concert. In the second half, the
boys in the choir had their time to shine when singing some Handel pieces.
Then for the finale the girls and boys both joined together to sing some
traditional Christmas carols including Sussex Carol, Hark the Herald Angels Sing
and O Come all ye Faithful. The week that I spent in Sydney preparing for the
concerts pushed me hard, (especially to learn all the songs by memory!) but I
enjoyed every bit of it.
